My week working for a newspaper

I have just completed a week of work experience at the Accrington Observer, which is my local paper.
During my time at the Observer, I got to see what it was like from a journalistic point of view, and I really enjoyed it!! I got to write news releases, a feature and blagged the photographer to let me take a picture, in order to get more things ticked off for my portfolio!
The paper is out today, and I feel really proud of myself for seeing something that I have written that has been published and everyone is going to read it!
I am always getting told by tutors and lecturers at uni, that journalists and people in PR don't like each other because they never say what the other wants to hear, (which also suprised me that I got a chance to do my work experience there.) I mentioned this to the journalists at the Observer, and they didnt really have an opinion on this, which I thought was strange seen as how its always mentioned at uni??
All in all I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Observer, I got to take part in many things that I thought I would never experience. Especially trapping my finger in the door on the last day and being taken to casualty!!

No Goody Gum Drops for Jade it seems!!

Its been on the news quite frequently recently, that Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty, was the target of the alleged abuse from Goody and others in the reality TV show. It has been said that Shilpa was the target of racist abuse, but was it not just ignorance?? When does ignorance end and racism begin???

The treatment of Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, attracted more than 30,000 complaints, caused a minor diplomatic incident and prompted the show's sponsor Carphone Warehouse to pull out.

Jade apoogised on national television saying her behaviour was "nasty" adding: "I'm not racist, but I can see why it has had the impact it's had. I apologise to anyone i have offended". But was this apology genuine or mearly to save her career.

Goodys entrance to the Big Brother house was the making or her, could this be the breaking??

Can we save the real beauty of this world before its too late??

Since watching the programme Extinct on ITV, it has really shocked me as to how much global warming really does affect the environment, and beautiful creatures. I have been really nieve to it up until now but I really hope they can be saved.

Endangered animals such as Polar bears need ice and snow to survive, but their habitat is being lost rapidly due to climate change. For the first time, the Polar bear has been classed as endangered on the IUCN Red List.

The WWF are currently campaigning to reduce global carbon emissions to give these beautiful creatures a fighting chance of survival. They are also putting projects together in order to get a better understanding of the impacts of climate change on Polar bears in order to safe guard their breeding areas.

The only real way to save Polar bears from becoming extinct and save the Artic from climate change and that is a complete re-think of the world's energy consumption.

Energy can be saved by switching off lights when they are not needed, don't leave the television, computer or stereo on stand by, switch them off!!

Reduce CO2 emissons by walking, cycling or taking the bus, or even share cars when travelling- this will also save you money.

Choose energy efficient light bulbs and appliances.
Turn down your thermostat by just 1°C and save one tenth of your home heating bill.
